I have a laptop with a 150 Mhz Pentium and 80 MB RAM. That thing is a dog when 
running KDE. I tried running Black Box instead of KDE and that helped a little 
but not enough. Booting and starting applications like Open Office are really 
slow. Doing things in a terminal, email and web surfing are ok.

I don't think the operating system matters as much as what applications you want 
to run.

Liv, can upgrade the memory? That could help a lot.
