the path of least resistance is using postfix

apt-get install postfix

then apt will prompt you for a little info...
when it asks for the name of your mail server ... put
the fully qualified domain name in ... ie. mail.mydomain.com

then apt will ask you who can relay ... add the ips/names
and your done.
