I need file sharing on a local network with three or four Gnu/Linux machines and 
four or five windows machines. I also need remote file access over the internet.

My current solution is a combination of NFS for the Gnu/linux machines, Samba 
for Windows. For remote access I use sftp in konqueror and/or rsync.

I suppose one of the things I would consider better is something more secure 
than NFS.
