FWIW, Ubuntu 5.10 "Breezy Badger" which will be released very soon now
(you can use the prerelease test CD now) has excellent support for
installing to LVM volumes on MD devices.  They've done a lot of work
with the Debian Installer that is of course going to go back into Debian
proper.
