[nmglug] update on xserver problem

Here's a copy of my post to the Ubuntuforums:
"Well I'll just keep posting to myself but in case anyone reads this...
I found a post that suggested "apt-get --reinstall upgrade". I did and now I
have an Xserver-sort of. The windows are "sticky" and double up and don't
fully close. Menus are off-color and weird. I noticed a couple of things:
when I reinstalled, the ati module 6.8.2-77 was replaced by 6.5.7.3,
presumably an earlier version?
Also, when I ran "startx" from the command line after reinstalling, the output
after closing the session had an error: no /dev/wacom found.
Could that cause the windowing problem?
As I stated in an earlier post, I upgraded the xserver-xorg package which
removed many good things, like wifi-radar, and as I now have no network in
Ubuntu I can't reinstall it. I use it to detect my wireless network and it
worked much better than Network manager or Kwifi Manager."
