Tonight is the regularly scheduled night. I won't be able to make it as
I'm out of town ;) But presumably there should be some folks around. I'm
not sure what's wrong with the little PHP nextmeeting script. I've
updated the date by hand for now.

How are you trying to burn the CD?

The easy gui way is to right-click the icon and click on Write-to-disc.
The trap to avoid is not to try and use
"CD/DVD creator" from the places menu. (That is for when you haven't
created/don't have an iso yet.)

If that's what your trying, and it's not working out for you. I'd check
to make sure that it's a good/complete iso.

$ du ~/Desktop/ubuntu-6.06-desktop-i386.iso

$ du ~/Desktop/ubuntu-6.06-alternate-i386.iso
709612  /home/sam/Desktop/ubuntu-6.06-alternate-i386.iso

$ md5sum ~/Desktop/ubuntu-6.06-desktop-i386.iso

$ md5sum ~/iso/ubuntu-6.06-alternate-i386.iso

If your iso is good, maybe try burning it on the command line:

$cdrecord ~/Desktop/ubuntu-6.06-desktop-i386.iso

or maybe:

$cdrecord dev=/dev/cdrw ~/Desktop/ubuntu-6.06-desktop-i386.iso

good luck.
