[nmglug] Another curious conundrum

The curious conundrum resolved-

I downloaded the bios software from HP. It gave me the I/o settings for
the cdrom, which enabled me to install Zenwalk.

Unfortunately, even after installing the HP/compaq bios, the damn thing
will not keep time or retain many of the settings, which tells me that
the CMOS battery is hosed, and it is installed so that it is not
replaceable. I will part this junker out and keep the bits and pieces
for other adventures.
