FYI, I'm pretty sure exim was OK, and just mailman was hung, since I
could send messages to myself from the shell with 'mail' while mailman
still had not delivered any messages (though they were in the pipermail
archives.)
But if you've got a warm feeling for postfix, I'm not opposed.
