NMGLugers, I had sometense moments over the weekend; I over-wrote the
MBR on my computer trying to get a grml install of Debian as a second
OS. Alas, the solutioinwas to get a Ubuntu usb for my current install
and do 'grub-install --root-directory=/media/myOS /dev/myHDD' And now
I am back to having a bootable system. No files lost and only a few
new gray hairs as I worried over how restore MBR.
It seems that both Debian install and grml use Grub 1(0.97) and I am
on Grub2, which is entirely re-vamped and has different configuration
and module files. So, be aware that as always, boot system, kernel and
OS need to be compatible and configured. Always good to keep a startup
usb for ones own system. Yes and maybe the latest Knoppix, too. Mine
was out of date and like the others it uses Grub 1.
Have a good week anddon'tmess your MBR. Ted P.
