NMGLUGers, I have been talking to another member and we plan to review the
LinuxMint Cinnamon desktop at Thursday's meeting. See https://nmglug.org/
and look for meeting time/place in right hand column.
The many differences between Xfce4 and Cinnamon came to the fore and so we
will look just at Cinnamon for Thursday night. I wonder if knowing that the
icons merely call functions makes it easier for me to change from one
system to another. People now use hieroglyphs to navigate phones and
computers, so words get in the way. Or do they? Many serious tech workers
eschew the GUI and just work via terminal. It is more direct, clear and
precise.
Anyway, a few of us do use the graphics and multi-purpose angle of
computing, despite changing times and styles.
For instance see this Decline of General Purpose
<https://cacm.acm.org/research/the-decline-of-computers-as-a-general-purpose-technology/>
article to get one perspective or come up with your own.
I hope to see a few of us at the next meeting, Ted P, Santa Fe
