rather than bore with questions, here's the <a href="http://www.unnamable.org/cr-cams.pdf">consumer reports ratings</a>. i
haven't used any open source tools for editing, but these cams should all import
to your software just fine -- it's a pretty standard protocol. i do
recommend MiniDV if you're not going with an HD camera (there are no HD
cams in this review).
