Thanks Andy. I think he'll go with the SATA and be fine. I never
realized how such a simple diagnostic could be so in depth but I
appreciate all of the feedback!<br>

So I would guess that the system you have supports BOTH old style
IDE/PATA drives and the new SATA drives as well. Just because his
old drive might be PATA does not mean you have to replace it with
PATA... you should be able to use a SATA drive and see a
performance increase... just be aware that he might have to buy a
SATA cable for the drive if he doesn't already have one.<br>
