Hi Brian,

I am available to help her out getting her software running, a file syncing solution set up, and her printer configured. I am, however, half an hour south of Santa Fe. The next time I plan on heading in that direction is for the nmglug meeting this coming Thursday, so the best time for me would be during the day, beforehand. If someone else lives closer, they may be able to give her a hand before that.

CC'ing the list. Let me know.

Cheers,
Sean

On Thu, Nov 29, 2012 at 2:22 PM, BrianO'Keefe <okeefe@cybermesa.com> wrote:

I finally got the box back from Doug and Shaun at Cyber Network. Doug copied all the data, he says, from the old failing drive to a newer drive and put it into a newer box. He also upgraded the OS to Windows 7. Now what Marian will need is the OS set up so that she can use her normal software, like Outlook and office programs. Also we'll get some new cartridges for her printer and hopefully then she'll have a functioning printer. We will work on getting her a conference call capable phone if the current multi-function machine functions. If it doesn't then we'll cross that bridge later.
So set up her OS, get her connected to the web, import all of her Outlook files into the new app in Windows 7, maybe even her IE bookmarks, network her laptop, desktop and printer. She would like to be able to do file sharing between the 2 boxes but she says she's never known how to do this before when it was set up.
It sounds like she could really use tutoring too but I am Windows dumb and couldn't assist there at all.
Are you up for it? I have another potential volunteer or 2 but you're the only one that offered setting up the OS and software.

Thanks,

Hi Brian,

Wow, that does sound like quite an endeavor. I wish her well in it.
Thank you for supporting that work.

Let me know what assistance is needed. As i said, i have no hardware
to donate, but i can set up an OS and software on one if that's needed,
get a network set up with whatever router is available, get the printer
installed and configured on the computer or network, etc.

Good luck,
Hi Sean,
Thanks so much for the offer! For a little more info about Marian
Naranjo I can tell you that it was her father who basically was the
"glue" that held Santa Clara Pueblo together during the difficult
times it experienced when much of its land was expropriated for the
Manhattan Project. The tribe was severely traumatized and the influx
of all of the "angloism" further contributed to the dissolving of the
pueblo traditions and the Tewa language and Pueblo traditions were
evaporating. Today Marian continues her father's work and is trying to
not only revitalize the use of their native language but also to
build, literally, a place where the traditions can be practiced. That
will be an enormous endeavor but our Amnesty International group here
has determined that we will at least get her office back up and
running after her HD was corrupted by some online service, her printer
is on the fritz and her small network is defunct (she is illiterate
computer-wise and doesn't know what happened and I don't have a clue
what her set-up was).
I am going to speak with her Monday and I will also go by Cybernetwork
and find out what was actually done to her box and that it's all fine.
(Doug talked about junking her old one and just transferring her data
to a better box but I don't know how that turned out).

Many, many thanks
I have no hardware to donate, nor do i know anything not inferred from
names about HOPE or a "Tewa language program", but they sound important
to me. Time is scarce for me these days and I live out south of Santa
Fe, but if needed I would be happy to assist in setting up software
and/or networking and get an opportunity to learn a little about what
she and they are doing.

Email me at this address to discuss what's needed and when it can get
done if you need me.

Cheers,
