OK, I found in town a "high power" PCMCIA wireless card, and it doesn't
burn out, as it requests 5V. The 3.3V previous card apparently got 5V
anyway on this old Compaq laptop. The SMC2532W-B card works on the
small 2k partition, but I didn't get it to work on the RH7.2 partition.
Of course it would work in Windows, where it has specific drivers. It
is 802.11b only. Don't know if it is Linux compatible, but it is older
and a 5V card.
I was able to load RH7.2 on that old 80 MB, 6.5G (new to it) drive in
the 150 MHz Compaq.
I tried just a little bit to make a PCMCIA NIC work, but I don't
immediately know how to set that up. I notice that the network
interface lo is brought up before the PCMCIA is turned on in the boot
sequence. Any networking would be great. I was glad to be able to
install 7.2 using the parallel port Backpack drive, as that laptop has
no CD.
So, are there any preliminary comments on getting PCMCIA wired or
wireless to work? Wireless and the 2.4.7 kernel?
