After lots of trial and error, I found a solution to my problem.

#dpkg --purge --force-all libxslt1
then
#apt-get -f install

-J

You can probably find info about this in Google.  I encountered the same
problem and got by it by doing

# apt-get -t unstable install libxslt1

I have testing and unstable in sources.list, with priority given to
testing in /etc/apt/preferences.
