Those of you not idling in #nmglug should be less productive...
If you've missed a few meetings and have no idea what this is about,
nmglug plans to run a booth at highmayhem's music festival:
http://www.highmayhem.com/festival.htm
or
http://www.highmayhemfestival.org/
Anyhow, there's been discussion of whether we should attempt to get the
music from the festival into the 'Free Music archive' that we intend to
have available for burning (or transferring to USB media, sharing on
GNUnet etc...)
There are a couple issues that have been raised so feel free to chime
in...
1. There may or may not be a patent issue involved :(
see:
http://arstechnica.com/news/posts/1085512916.html
http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO2&Sect2=HITOFF&p=1&u=/netahtml/search-adv.htm&r=1&f=G&l=50&d=ptxt&S1='live+cd'&OS=%22live+cd%22&RS=%22live+cd%22
2. This could be way too popular, overshadowing anything else we are
trying to do. And requiring all the resources (person-power + available
CDRWs etc.) that we will be able to provide.
3. Potentially highmayhem may want to tackle this 'themselves'
So the current submission is that we should focus on doing a great job
of having the two other goals accomplished; namely:
1. Broadcasting a highly available live feed (icecast)
2. Having a small (or big?) archive of other Free Music that can be
shared in the ways already mentioned.
Discuss please...
