Howdy,
	No you do not have to be a programmer to use linux. Though if this is
your first time installing and using linux I would avoid using certain
linux distros (i.e. Gentoo) as some are harder to install then others.

Do you have a linux distro that you are planning on using?  Have you
checked that all your laptop hardware will work with it?
