NMGLugers, I've been working on a Lenovo G570 with no luck at accurately
diagnosing the cause of the screen going snowy white from time to time.I do
have some interesting dmesg data:
[ 3801.052632] perf: interrupt took too long (2511 > 2500), lowering
kernel.perf_event_max_sample_rate to 79500
[ 4854.434600] perf: interrupt took too long (3172 > 3138), lowering
kernel.perf_event_max_sample_rate to 63000
[ 6331.178797] perf: interrupt took too long (3978 > 3965), lowering
kernel.perf_event_max_sample_rate to 50250
[ 8761.400542] perf: interrupt took too long (4978 > 4972), lowering
kernel.perf_event_max_sample_rate to 40000
Another day:
[ 1140.327578] [drm:intel_set_pch_fifo_underrun_reporting [i915]] *ERROR*
uncleared pch fifo underrun on pch transcoder A
[ 1140.327612] [drm:intel_pch_fifo_underrun_irq_handler [i915]] *ERROR* PCH
transcoder A FIFO underrun
[ 2738.169609] perf: interrupt took too long (2540 > 2500), lowering
kernel.perf_event_max_sample_rate to 78500
[ 3508.016823] perf: interrupt took too long (3226 > 3175), lowering
kernel.perf_event_max_sample_rate to 62000
[ 4803.061071] perf: interrupt took too long (4049 > 4032), lowering
kernel.perf_event_max_sample_rate to 49250
[ 6866.952654] perf: interrupt took too long (5089 > 5061), lowering
kernel.perf_event_max_sample_rate to 39250
So, I will bring the unit to our GLUG meeting - barring a terrific
snowstorm- and see if we can determine whether this is hardware or
software. I am reluctant to expend any money without knowing what to fix.
For now I close the the lid to restart the display and I can work for
longer and longer periods without an issue. Web searches have been
fruitless diversions.
Thank you, Ted P.
