NMGLugers, Well I got tired of the Peppermint OS being so slow on the
2004 Toshiba laptop, so I installed Debian. It turns out the browser -
either Chromium or Firefox use 80% of the processor, no matter what.
So, Debian is an improvement, as the Peppermint was using the browser
and websearch built into the Unity system that was underneath the
desktop. It was a modified Cinnamon desktop with Nemo for file
manager. Anyway I will keep working or toying with it for a while. But
I think the Celeron processor is just not up to current demands. Oh,
well. I do have the 32-bit net install CD and it worked quite well. I
did choose to stick with Xfcxe as the desktop, rather than Cinnamon,
but I think that choice is a matter of taste and habit. I will try the
e-links browser to see if it will fill the bill for browsing.
Otherwise there is a limit to how old a computer/processor one can
actually use.
Thank you, Ted P.
