[nmglug] Hibernate failure

Hi NMGLUG folks,

I'm having an issue recently that I hope I can get help with.
It's on my Debian 11 system, updated.
Recently, I've had problems when I leave the laptop overnight.
When I stop, I click on Logout > Suspend, then the screen goes black
and I close the lid. I expect that when I open the lid in the morning
and enter my password, I should be back where I left off.

When I've done this recently, it works sometimes.
Other times, it crashes after the batteries run out of power in the
middle of the night.
Other times, it works, but I see a message in the morning "None of the
screen lock tools ran successfully, the screen will not be locked. Do
you still want to suspend the system?"
Other times, it works, but I see a message in the morning
"Authentication is required to hibernate the system."

I have a setting in Power Manager to hibernate when inactive for one
hour, so that's what I'm focusing on now.
I found some helpful info in this
link https://askubuntu.com/questions/543921/authentication-required-before-suspend
I found the file /usr/share/polkit-
1/actions/org.freedesktop.login1.policy
In that file, I found this segment:
<action id="org.freedesktop.login1.hibernate">
<description gettext-domain="systemd">Hibernate the
system</description>
<message gettext-domain="systemd">Authentication is required to
hibernate the system.</message>
<defaults>
<allow_any>auth_admin_keep</allow_any>
<allow_inactive>auth_admin_keep</allow_inactive>
<allow_active>yes</allow_active>
</defaults>
</action>

Other info:
I usually have the laptop plugged into an external monitor, and I
usually have the power strip (which powers the external monitor and
laptop) turned off overnight.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.
LeRoy
