Well let me say this. Before doing anything I would image your current
system as it is. With something like..
DriveImage XML
http://www.runtime.org/driveimage-xml.htm
Or Reflect
http://www.macrium.com/ReflectFree.asp
Or from linux...
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=581680
That way you can always go back to the way you currently have things
setup.
That said as much as I would love to tell you go all Ubuntu but I'm
going to say go with whatever you feel that you will be the most
productive using. If you are willing to take the time to fully adjust to
linux without a doubt go all Ubuntu. There are things that I've run into
that you may have issues with running Windows in a VM, USB. If you need
to sync something like a iPhone 90% of the time things will work but try
to do a full system restart to it and good luck! You'll need a MAC of
Windows to get it to complete. That said I can honestly tell you that I
can recommend using Ubuntu as the sole host OS. I've been using Ubuntu
as my sole OS for my home workstation and my work laptop for two years
and I've had very little issues, VPNC aside.
I'm a big VMWare person as I have rather large ESX environment at work
and I use VMWare workstation on my laptop. I rarely go my XP f VM for
anything as of right now.
How this helps...
Eric
Fyi... I wrote the "HOWTO: Create, Recover and Automate System Images"
so if you have any questions feel free to ask...or point out any
type-o's.
