Must the file permissions be changed on the copied material? i.e. will
the program restore files for which the user may not have write
permission?
How do I confirm that cron is started,so that "Back in Time" or your
reference Flyback" will clock as scheduled ?

Any pointers on the following:

desktop:~$ sudo update-rc.d cron defaults
[sudo] password for a:
update-rc.d: warning: /etc/init.d/cron missing LSB information
update-rc.d: see <http://wiki.debian.org/LSBInitScripts>
System start/stop links for /etc/init.d/cron already exist.

Now things are getting out of hand.Looking at the script fragment from
init.d.,below.I feeling like I am being sucked into the endless void,:

System start/stop links for /etc/init.d/cron already exist. $ECHO
$ECHO "Since the script you are attempting to invoke has been
converted to an"
$ECHO "Upstart job, you may also use the $COMMAND(8) utility, e.g.
$COMMAND $JOB"
    $COMMAND "$JOB"

a at desktop:~$
